One of the UK’s biggest housebuilders has said the vote to leave the European Union has not affected demand for homes, despite warnings that buyers would put decisions on hold while the economy remains volatile. Taylor Wimpey struck a confident tone this morning in reporting its results for the half year to July 3, saying that customer interest in buying its homes remains high. Pete Redfern, chief executive of the FTSE 100 company, said trading was “in line with normal seasonal patterns”. “While it is still too early to assess what the longer term impact from the referendum result on the housing market may be, we are encouraged by the first month’s trading,” he added. Shares in Taylor Wimpey jumped by more than 7pc as investors reacted positively to the news.
